State Public Speaking Contest

Missouri 4-H and Lincoln University are pleased to announce the 2008 State 4-H Public Speaking Contest, which will be held Saturday, September 27th on the MU Campus at Waters and Mumford Halls. 

The program begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends by mid-afternoon.  Please note that while the traditional portions of the State Public Speaking Contest remain unchanged, Missouri 4-H is piloting several exciting new expansions for 2008!

Public Speaking Competition Categories

Contestants may compete in the following categories:
 

Juniors (ages 8-13)

• Prepared Speech

• Extemporaneous Speaking

• Public Service Announcement (PSA)

Registration

Prepared Speech Category
Each county may register two (2) participants, age 14 or older, for the Senior competition and two (2) participants age 8-13 for the Junior competition.   

Other Categories
Each county may register up to four (4) participants in the Junior competition and Senior competition for any of the four new categories.  These individuals may each register to compete in the public speaking category of their choosing.

Registration Fees and Forms
In order to keep costs low and encourage support from family and friends, there will be no banquet this year and participants will be on their own for lunch.  Registration cost is $10 per participant and there is no charge for family members.

Please check with your county Extension office for local deadlines.  Registration from counties must be received by the state office no later than August 15, 2008.
