Positive Values

It is important for young people to place a high value on helping other people.

What you can do:

  • Include service projects as a part of your youth activities.
  • Allow time for youth to reflect upon their service to others. Encourage them to see the value in helping others.
  • Recognize kids when they behave in caring and considerate ways.
  • Model caring behavior for youth by acting in caring ways.

It is beneficial for young people to exercise restraint and to believe it is important not
to be sexually active or to use
alcohol and other drugs.

What you can do:

  • Create an atmosphere in which abstaining from sex and drug use is valued and affirmed by youth.
  • Be willing to talk openly and honestly with youth about their concerns regarding sex, alcohol, and drugs.
  • Be a role-model; behave in ways that show you exercise restraint.
