ANNOUNCEMENT

4-Habitat II:  Solar Edition

Missouri 4-H, University of Missouri Architectural Studies Extension and Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity announce an exciting opportunity to become part of a design team that will work with Habitat for Humanity to “adopt” a family who are purchasing a Habitat home!

Youth teams will have the unique experience of working directly with the family to furnish and landscape their new home, located in Columbia, MO.  Learning opportunities will focus primarily on the interior design process and improving energy efficiency through both interior finishes and landscaping.  Additional teams will provide other components such as sewing, art projects, cooking, and a website to track the progress of the project.

Building on the success of the first 4-Habitat program in 2007 – 2008, 4-Habitat II will offer a new learning opportunity for youth and adult participants alike!  This year’s home will be constructed using solar panels and other design features that will allow for a dramatic decrease in the home’s energy use.  The 4-Habitat II team will learn about the design principles being used, how they affect decisions about landscaping and interior finishes, and much more!

Beginning in late July, the selected team members will meet to form ideas about what to provide for the family that has been selected.  Total team enrollment is limited to 20 youth, ages 13-18.  For application information, click here.
