MU
Extension Youth Enterprisers (EYE) VISTA program
Empowering Missouri's entrepreneurial communities
through AmeriCorps VISTA
EYE is an AmeriCorps VISTA national service program, partnering MU
Extension and the 4-H
Center for Youth Development with select communities across Missouri.
Between 2006-2010, 27 VISTA members completed one-year capacity-building
assignments with local non-profit organizations and
governmental groups. VISTAs started and expanded programs to:
- support aspiring entrepreneurs of all ages
- develop community leaders
- engage youth and young adults
- capture and reinvest community wealth
Working alongside MU Extension and other community initiatives, the
project demonstrated the potential of entrepreneurship
as an anti-poverty strategy, and supported communities in developing
regional pipelines of support for entrepreneurs.
